Once the game is over, the king and the pawn go back in the same box -Italian Proverb
(i got that one from tim!)
Friday, February 28, 2003
A first grade teacher collected old, well known proverbs. She gave each kid in her class the first half of a proverb, and had them come up with the rest:
As you shall make your bed so shall you... mess it up.
Better to be safe than... punch a 5th grader.
Strike while the... bug is close.
It's always darkest before... daylight savings time.
Never underestimate the power of... termites.
You can lead a horse to water but... how?
Don't bite the hand that... looks dirty.
No news is... impossible.
A miss is as good as a... Mr.
You can't teach an old dog new... math.
If you lie down with the dogs, you'll... stink in the morning.
Love all, trust... me.
The pen is mightier than the... pigs.
An idle mind is... the best way to relax.
Where there's smoke, there's... pollution.
Happy the bride who... gets all the presents!
A penny saved is... not much.
Two's company, three's... the Musketeers.
Don't put off tomorrow what... you put on to go to bed.
Laugh and the whole world laughs with you, cry and... you have to blow your nose.
None are so blind as... Helen Keller.
Children should be seen and not... spanked or grounded.
If at first you don't succeed... get new batteries.
You get out of something what you... see pictured on the box.
When the blind leadeth the blind... get out of the way.
There is no fool like... Aunt Eddie.

(these i stold from a guy i like to call chris...)

"Sometimes I wish I had never met you, because then I could go to sleep at night not knowing there was someone like you out there."

A friend stopped at a pay-at-the-pump gas station to get gas. Once she filled her gas tank, after paying at the pump and starting to leave, the attendant inside came over the speaker. He told her that something happened with her card and that she needed to come inside to pay.
The lady was confused because the transaction showed completed and approved. She told him that and was getting ready to leave, but the attendant once again urged her to come in to pay or else.
She proceeded to go inside and started arguing with the attendant about his threat. He told her to calm down and listen carefully:
He told her that while she was pumping gas, a guy slipped into the back seat of her car on the other side and he had called the police. She immediately became scared and looked out there in time to see her car door open and the guy slip out.
The report is that the new gang initiation thing is to bring back a woman's body part. One way they are doing this is by crawling under girls/women's cars while they're pumping gas, or at grocery stores in the nighttime. Then they are cutting the lady's ankles to disable them in order to kidnap them, kill and dismember them. The other way is slipping into unattended cars and kidnapping the women to kill and dismember them.
Please pass this on to other women, young and old alike. Be extra careful going to and from your car at night. If at all possible, don't go alone! This is real!!
The message:
1. ALWAYS lock your car doors, even if you're gone for just a second.
2. Check underneath your car when approaching it for re-entry, and check in the back before getting in.
3. Always be aware of your surroundings and other individuals in your general vicinity, particularly at night!

There is a tremendous danger in which we find ourselves by being human, a danger that consists in the fact that we are placed between two tremendous powers. The choice is left to us. We must either love or hate, and not to love is to hate. So hostile are these two powers that the slightest inclination towards the one side becomes absolute opposition to the other. Let us not forget this tremendous danger in which we exist. To forget is to have made your choice.

i love you
not only for what you are,
but for what i am
when i am with you.
i love you,
not only for what
you have made of yourself
but for what you are making of me.
i love you
for the part of me
that you are bringing out;
i love you
because you have done
more than any creed
could have done
to make me good.
and more than any fate
could have done
to make me happy.
you have done it
without a touch,
without a word,
without a sign.
you have done it
by being yourself
perhaps that is what
being a friend means,
after all.
I didnt know I would love you
when I looked into your eyes.
now I have a heart, I cant keep,
and a feeling of fear
that will leave me here
its planted in this water so deep...
so dont you turn away from me
cuz my heart and my hope are in your hands
and if I dont seem certain,
its just a common fear from a common girl
in your hands...
just so you know, I have never done this sort of thing before
I never given up my very soul
but I have heard a voice,
I never heard before
its a voice that never grows old
dont you turn away from me
cuz my heart and my hope are in your hands
and if I dont seem certain, its just a common fear from a common girl...
in your hands...

Love goes very far beyond the physical person of the beloved. It finds its deepest meaning in his spiritual being, his inner self. Whether or not he is actually present, whether or not he is still alive at all, ceases somehow to be of importance.

We convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, then another. Then we are frustrated that the kids aren't old enough and we'll be more content when they are. After that, we're frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with. We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage. We tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse gets his or her act together, when we get a nicer car, when we are able to go on a nice vacation or when we retire. The truth is there's no better time to be happy than right now. If not now, when? Your life will always be filled with challenges.
It's best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway. Happiness is the way. So, treasure every moment that you have and treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time with ... and remember that time waits for no one.
So, stop waiting ...
Until your car or home is paid off.
Until you get a new car or home.
Until your kids leave the house.
Until you go back to school.
Until you finish school.
Until you lose 10 lbs.
Until you gain 10 lbs.
Until you get married.
Until you get a divorce.
Until you have kids.
Until you retire.
Until summer..
Until spring.
Until winter.
Until fall.
Until you die.
There is no better time than right now to be happy. Happiness is a journey, not a destination. So work like you don't need money, love like you've never been hurt, and, dance like no one's watching.

The Window
A great note for all to read. It will take just 37 seconds to read this and change your thinking.
Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.
The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, and, even where they had been on vacation. Every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.
The man in the other bed began to live for those one-hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the outside world.
The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.
As the man by the window described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene.
One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man couldn't hear the band -- he could see it. In his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words.
Days and weeks passed. One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep. She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away.
As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.
Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside. He strained to slowly turn to look out the window beside the bed. To his amazement, it faced a blank wall.
The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful outside this window. The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall. She said, "Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you."
Epilogue: There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations. Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled.
If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can't buy.
The origin of this letter is unknown, but it brings good luck to everyone who passes it on. Do not keep this letter. Do not send money. Just forward it to your friends to whom you wish good luck. You will see that something good happens to you four days from today.
People will forget what you said.......
People will forget what you did.........
But people will never forget how you made them feel.........
Have a wonderful day......

its ok to kiss a fool or let a fool kiss you but never let a kiss fool you
(this one's from andrea...goes along with the conversation we had today in the car on the way home from the full orchestra concert)
i got these outta my subprofile...
"True love cannot be found where it does not exist, nor can it be hidden where it truly does."
"I love you not for what you are, but for who I am when I'm with you."
"No man is worth your tears, and the one who is won't make you cry."
"It's better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all."
"To the world you may be just one person, but to one person you just may be the world."
"Don't frown, even when you're sad, because you'll never know who's falling in love with your smile."
"If you love something, set it free. If it comes back to you, it is yours... If it doesn't, it was never meant to be."
"A friend is someone who believes in you when you cease to believe in yourself."
"boys are like stars...there's a million of them but only one will make your dreams come true."
"Sometimes the people we thought we would never fall in love with are the people we love the most and will never forget."
"Don't give your heart to too many nothings, because when you find a true something you'll have nothing left to give."
"Why do we always love the ones who hurts us and hurt the ones who love us?"
"I pretend to be happy b/c he's happy, but how can I be happy knowing that I'm not the one making him smile?"
"a kiss is just a kiss until you find the one you love. a hug is just a hug until it's with the one you're thinking of. a dream is just a dream until you make it come true. love is just a word until it's proven to you."

Love is a mighty power, a great and complete good. Love alone lightens every burden, and makes the rough places smooth… Nothing is sweeter than love, nothing stronger, nothing higher, nothing wider, nothing more pleasant, nothing fuller or better in heaven or earth; for love is born of God, and can rest only in God, above all created things.
Love flies, runs, and leaps for joy; it is free and unrestrained. Love gives all for all, resting in One who is highest above all things, from whom every good flows and proceeds. Love does not regard the gifts, but turns to the Giver of all good gifts.
